Orienting and Securing the Controller
For proper functioning of the decelerometer capabilities it is critical to install and secure the controller in the proper physical orientation.
- The arrow on the controller label should point to the front of your bike
- The controller should be placed horizontally, parallel to the ground
- To minimize conducting engine vibration directly to the controller, the controller should NOT be secured directly to the chassis or frame
- Bend the wires and secure the wire bundle to the bike
First, identify a flat, level location to position the controller as described above.
Second, identify the correct wires to tap for your bike and confirm that the controller wires will reach from the mounting location that you have chosen.
Next bend a curve in the wires near the controller and secure the wires to the bike, 3"-5" from the controller, using the provided zip tie. In order to isolate the controller from the bike's vibration, it is insulated in neoprene.
Wiring of the controller with the decelerometer feature is the same as for the standard IQ-260. Please click here or refer to the main installation manual for wiring instructions.
Below are photos showing examples of where to locate and secure the decelerometer controller
Programming Decelerometer Sensitivity
There are 5 sensitivity settings for the decelerometer plus the option to turn it off. Sensitivity is adjusted with standard programming method described below. If the brake lights flash even with minor deceleration, decrease the sensitivity. If they fail to flash with significant deceleration, increase the sensitivity. The default setting is medium.
Modes are changed using the brake lever with the ignition on.
To enter programming mode:
- Tap and release the brake 4 times
- Wait 5-6 seconds for the lights to flash 4 times, indicating that you are in programming mode
- Now tap and release the brake the number of times listed next to your desired mode from the list below
- Wait 5-6 seconds without any brake activity. The lights will flash back to confirm that they have received your programming input.
- The number of flashes will correspond to the ones digit of the sensitivity mode that has been entered. (e.g. 4 flashes would indicate that the sensitivity has now been set to "high", programming mode 14)
After the lights flash, your entry has been saved and you are out of programming mode.
If you are having trouble triggering the deceleration braking first try increasing the sensitivity as described above.
It is difficult to provide an action or definitive amount of force because many factors influence when the decelerometer will be triggered. The weight of bike, the type of clutch, riding style, orientation of the controller, road terrain all can influence whether or not the decelerometer is triggered.
Typically there are two actions that can cause rapid deceleration: engine braking and downshifting.
Two suggested actions.
- Accelerate strongly in 2nd gear then rapidly close the throttle. Engine braking will decelerate the bike and trigger the lamp.
- While at highway speed downshift 2 or 3 gears abruptly.
NOTE: A slipper clutch reduces the deceleration rate from engine braking and it is possible that the slipper clutch on some models keeps the deceleration below the threshold of sensitivity in the software on our controller.
Tip Over Flasher
The controller will automatically turn on the connected lights in an emergency flashing pattern in the event that the bike tips over beyond a 65 degree angle from vertical. The flash pattern will be 3 flashes, pause, repeat. If you have the turn signal version of the controller, the 3 repeating flashes will alternate left then right. They will remain on as flashers for 15 seconds after the bike has been up-righted. The lights will no longer flash if the ignition is off, but will come back on again in Tip Over mode when the ignition is turned on unless the bike is upright.
